Abstract:
Patients who use removable dentures often develop a microbial imbalance of the oral cavity. The study revealed significant changes in the qualitative and quantitative composition of the oral microbiota in this category of patients: the predominance of gram-negative representatives, an increase in the number of coagulase-positive streptococci, enterobacteria and yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. Subject of the study – the composition and properties of the oral microbiota, as well as the state of local immunity in patients with removable dentures with microbial imbalance. Objective – to substantiate the effectiveness of tablets for cleaning removable dentures in order to optimize therapeutic and preventive measures. Materials and Methods. Experimental, clinical, and statistical research methods were used to achieve this goal. The clinical part of the study involved 30 patients (18 women, 12 men) aged 40 to 78 years who have been using full removable plate prostheses for at least 1 year. All patients were divided into 3 groups depending on the exposure time of the prosthesis in the cleaning solution. Conclusions. The conducted study allows us to establish that the microbiota of the oral cavity in patients with removable dentures is characterized by significant qualitative and quantitative changes. The key feature is the formation of dense biofilms on the surface of the prostheses, which serve as a reservoir for opportunistic microorganisms. When using tablets, the following microorganisms were eliminat: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Neisseria spp., Candida albicans, Lactobacillus, due to their unique composition. With a high degree of contamination by pathogenic microbiota, it is advisable to use increased concentrations of the solution, which act even against Neisseria spp. Hygienic tablets are a highly effective means for decontamination of removable dentures. To achieve a lasting clinical effect, it is recommended to increase the exposure time of the prosthesis in solution to 60 minutes.
