AN ANTHROPOMORPHIC DENTAL ROBOT AS A MODERN MEANS OF IMMERSIVE LEARNING FOR TRAINING AND QUALIFICATION OF MEDICAL PERSONNEL

Abstract:
Subject. The development and implementation of simulation technologies based on the use of robotic systems in modern dental education is conditioned by the need for students to safely and repeatedly practice both clinical manipulations related to dental treatment and the algorithm of actions in emergency situations. The goal is to develop and test a dental anthropomorphic robot for training dentists using simulation cases at the stages of practicing communication skills and practical abilities, both during routine dental care and in emergency situations during outpatient appointments. Methodology. The key solution is the development and physical implementation of a dental anthropomorphic patient robot equipped with integrated Smart–jaw and Smart-tooth systems that allow practicing practical skills in the treatment of caries, pulpitis, and tooth preparation for an artificial crown. A set of clinical cases and linguistic scenarios has been developed that simulate an outpatient dental appointment, during which the patient develops urgent conditions (syncope, anaphylactic shock, collapse). We have created interchangeable modules for practicing injection techniques, equipped with contours to simulate a vein and control pressure, puncture sensors, fluid volume and tourniquet clamping, which allows real-time monitoring of the correctness of the student's actions. Results. The result of the research is an integrated learning system that, due to its maximum realism and immersiveness, allows for the formation of stable communicative and manual skills, clinical thinking and algorithmic actions in critical situations, thereby improving the overall safety and quality of dental care. Conclusion. A combined approach combining traditional training, work on simulators and online modules, using updated robotic complexes, seems to be quite effective in training medical personnel.
