Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
Subject. This paper examines the problems associated with xerostomia and sialology in the Middle Urals. The background of this scientific subject matter is inextricably connected with opening of the Faculty of Dentistry at Sverdlovsk State Medical Institute in the city of Sverdlovsk, currently named Ekaterinburg. Professor Lilia Malchikova, one of the first dentistry teachers of the Medical Prophylactic Faculty, who started the Faculty of Dentistry, founded and shaped ideas of the Ural Scientific School of Dentistry. Her scientific aims and ideas have been continued by her successors. The major role in developing research topics of xerostomia and sialology is played by the following professors of the Faculty: Galina Ron, Tatiana Elovikova, Sergey Grigoryev and others. Conclusions. Research findings of staff members of the sialology and xerostomia department are published in over 650 papers and 9 monographs, presented in 4 PhD dissertation studies and over 60 candidate theses. Over 30 patents and inventor’s certificates are granted. 15 intellectual property products are created. The goals of further investigations for the faculty members and young scientists include the targeted, adequate and timely management of this unpleasant serious condition. This addresses practical healthcare needs, the professional scientific interest, and perspectives on development and implementation of new AI technologies in dentistry and medicine. Thus, both sialology and the Ural State Medical University Department of Therapeutic Dentistry and Propedeutics of Dental Disease mark the continuity in history.
